Blayney
Located on Lake Carcoar, south of Orange, Blayney Wind Farm is one of the largest in New South Wales. The wind farm consists of 15 turbines. Each of these is 45 meters high with a rotor diameter exceeding 45 meters. The capacity of each turbine is 660kW and the total generation of the farm is 9.9MW.
Wind farms deliver green power in a rural environment while co-existing with the traditional pastoral land use.
Great care has been taken in the design, construction and operation of the Blayney Wind Farm. The engineering and environmental planning included detailed consideration of potential impacts related to noise, visual impact, archaeology, aerial and terrestrial fauna. This will ensure that there is no significant disturbance to the natural environment.
Blayney Wind Farm will produce clean energy without any greenhouse gas emissions. Compared to conventional coal-fired generated electricity, the wind farm will save 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the estimated 20 year life of the project. This reduces the need for fossil fuel generation that produces greenhouse gases.
Eraring Energy, owners of the wind farm, feed all electricity generated into Country Energy's transmission grid for distribution to their Green Power customers.
The first time we were here last August it was middle winter, very cold and windy. All you could hear was the noise of the turbines. This time the weather was beautiful only a slight breeze. Campers under the trees cooking breakfast on the gas bbq's while kiddies on bicycles cycling around. Some had brought their canoes or tinnies to do a spot of fishing. I feel like I want to go buy a secondhand folding camper van, just watching them.Camping at Lake Carcoar under the trees. What a way to spend the Easter weekend.

ReplyDeleteHi Rina, I'm with you-camping on a lake is my cup of tea! I have a small kayak I can just pop onto the car and go. My dream is to get a teardrop trailer to sleep in and fix up a minimal kitchen in the back of it. Cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the wind turbines. We have some in Southern Vermont, close to us. They are like gentle giants quietly going about their work. We need lots more, but people worry about the way they look (don't want them cluttering up the view), instead of how beneficial they are!
